Major Touristic Destination In Tibet

Tibet is the best place to gain experience the true Buddhism and Culture. It has taken many years to come to today’s shape. When in Tibet one gets a feeling of being in a different part of the world. The monasteries built centuries back, the open grasslands, the unique and unspoiled lakes, the snow carved mountains are always worth visiting. Its like being addicted; the more you visit the more you want to go further and want to know more about this beautiful land. The Major tourist attractions in Tibet are located in different areas can be divided as follows:

Central Tibet

Western Tibet

Northern Tibet

Central Tibet Crossing the Tibetian Plateau.

It covers about the one-fourth of total area of Tibet. This area is also known as the hub of Tibetan Civilization as all the major tourist attraction of Tibet and major cities are located in this region.

Lhasa

Situated at an altitude of 3670 m. from the sea level, this capital of Tibet and centre of Lama theology, plays the most important role in Tibet, both on administration & Tourism. All the government offices are located in this only municipality in Tibet. While in Lhasa you can visit following Places: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Market, Norbulingka Summer

Palace, Drepung Monastery (the largest Monastery in Tibet), Sera Monastery (The Second largest monastery in Tibet). Apart from above places following places are worth visiting when you are in Lhasa; Ganden Monastery (70 kms) Tibetan Medical Institute, Tshurpu Monastery, Nunnery, NechungTemple etc.

Xegatse

Situated at an altitude of 3900 m. from the sea level this is the second largest town in Tibet and Tashilunpo Monastery, Shalu Monastery, Sakya Monastery and the local market are worth visiting when you are there.

Gyantse

It is situated at an altitude of 4100m. from the sea level. Phalchor Monastery and Khumbum Stupa are major attraction of this small town.

Tsedang

Situated at an altitude of 3560 m. from the sea level, the major attraction of this small town are, Gonpari Mountain, Yambulakhang (the first palace built in Tibet) Thandrok, Thombs of Tibetan Kings (38 kms. south of Tsedang), Samye (the first monastery built in Tibet) and mindroling (the study centre of Buddhist Philosophy)

Western Tibet or Ngari Region Lake Mansarovar.

This is the other an important region for tourist attraction. It is situated at an altitude of average 4500 m. from sea level.

Mt. Kailash

Revered by four religion this is the most scared mountain for Hindus, Buddhist, Jains and Bons. It is also the source of four largest rivers in Asia.

Lake Manasarovar

Just below the Mt. Kailash and Situated at an altitude of 4588 m. this scared lake is as important as Mt. Kailash.

Tsaparang and Toiling

Also known as the Guge Kingdom which was built in 9th century.

Northern Tibet Region (Mansarovar & Mt. Kailash) Mt. Kailash.

Covering most of grassland of Tibet the major attraction of this region are : Horse Racing Festival, which takes place during May and June, Lake Namtso. Etc.

Apart from above places Yandrok Lake, Pasang Tsho Lake (In Nyingchi) Forest Park, Tagla Mountain, Sangpo Bairuk Monastery and Bugyu temple are worth visiting.
