C. Langtang Helambu Trek
Langtang is the closest National Park to Kathmandu. You start to trek after a 180 kms drive to Dhunche, north of Kathmandu. Langtang National Park is the habitat of some endangered animals such as the Red Panda. It is also home to Wild Boars, Langur Monkeys and Leopards. Langtang is close to Tibet and many of the resident ethnic groups originated in that country. The culture and lifestyle is very similar to Tibet.. The following are the route options in this area:

1. Langtang Valley Trek ( 8 days):-Starting from Syabru Bensi, this trek goes up to Kyanjin Gomba at the elevation of 3800m in Langtang Valley which is surrounded by snow -capped mountains. The return route is similar but the trek can begin or end in Dhunche.

2. Langtang Gosainkunda Trek (12 days):- This trek leads you all the way up to Kyanjin Gomba and back down to Syabru village from where you start trekking through pine & rhododendron forest up to Gosainkunda lakes, situated at the height of 4200m.. The Gosainkunda Lakes are sacred holy lakes where thousands of Hindu devotees throng to attend a festival in the month of August

3. Langtang -Gosainkunda- Helambu Trek ( 15 days)- This is one of the longest treks GAT organises in Langtang region. It is a combination of the two treks outlined above, and the route is extended over the Laurabina Pass (4600m) from Gosainkunda to Gopte and Tharepati, following a long ridge downward to Sundarijal ("beautiful water"). This walk provides magnificent views of mountains and valleys. From Sundarjal it is a short taxi ride back to Kathmandu. An optional route passes through villages of the Helambu, from Melamchigaon to MelamchiPul similar to Route #5 below.

4. Ganjala pass Trek (12 days)- Maximum altitude gain 4510m- This trek also starts from Dhunche. Trekkers have to cross a challenging pass called Ganjala to continue their trek through Tarkeghyang to end up at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Camping is obligatory for at least 5 days as there are not any tea houses on the way. Snow conditions can add to the difficulty of this trek. Mountaineering skills and equipment are recommended.

5. Helambu Trek(7 days) Maximum altitude gain 3597m- Driving up to Sundarijal from Kathmandu, trekkers start climbing upward through a rainforest.
