The ancient history of Kathmandu
begins from Manjushree (The Buddhist Saint). Before it begins as, before Manjushree came
to the Kathmandu it was a lake, he cut southern side of the lake and drained out the water
and made it inhabitable. Kathmandu contains three fabled cities named Kathmandu, Patan and
Bhaktapur. Their local names are Yoe, Yela and Khwopa respectively. Many dynasties came
and went. Trade and arts flourished. There are seven UNESCO heritage sites in the valley.
Kathmandu Durbar
Square
A couple of palaces, temples and
traditional art of culture is built in the middle in middle Period. It is protected as the
Heritage Site in the social, religious, and urban focal point of the city. It is called as
Hanuman Dhoka,. The site guarded by God Hanuman , the temple - resident of Royal Kumari;
(The Living goddess ) . The place where Kumari lives is known as Kasthamandap, after which
the word Kathmandu is named .There are number of temples and palaces in this area.
Swyambhu Nath
An ancient stupa at the top of a
steep hill. Believed to be more than 2000 years old. The over looking eyes of the Buddha
on central stupa seen from all round in the four sides is a glamorous view to watch.
Countless prayer are seen in the evening. Beside the central stupa many other small sizes
of stupas can be seen all round. This temple is also called as Monkey Temple.
Patan
Five CMS south of Kathmandu across
Bagmati river. The best place to see Buddhist and Hindu temples, monasteries and
traditional Nepali artisan at work. The centuries old Durbar Square palace, Krishna Temple
(masterpiece of Multishikara temple). Many types of temples like, temple of thousand
Buddha Maha Bouddha temple, Hiraya- Varna Mahavir, Khumbeswor temple etc can be seen and
studied about.
Pashupati Nath
The Pashupatinath temple stands
along the side of Bagmati river. It is the holiest Temple for the Hindus. Many people from
different part of Asia visit Pashupati Nath temple. Pashupati Nath, dedicated to lord
Shiva, is also a site for Hindu cremation. During the festival; Shiva Ratri, there is a
vast crowd from many parts of Asia, as this festival is the biggest festival of
worshipping lord Shiva.
Boudha Nath
Possibly the worlds largest
stupa and centre of Tibetan Buddhist Culture in Nepal. The monastery is surrounded by the
antique shops where you can buy the things of your interest relating to Buddhist. During
the Tibetan new year, there are many Buddhist visiting Bouddha.
Bhaktapur
The city Bhaktapur known also as
Bhadgaon "City of Devotees is 14 kms east of Kathmandu. The exquisitely carved 55
windows palace, The Golden Gate an old palace, 5 storey Nyatapola temple and Bhairav
temple nearby and Duttatray square etc can observed. Bhaktapur is the one of the richest
cities of the world and best preserved of the traditional city system of the valley.
Changu narayan Temple can also be
visited from Bhaktapur. It lies north of Bhaktapur on a ridge over looking the valley.

Nagarkot
About an hour drive passing
Bhaktapur through beautiful country side takes you to the top of Nagarkot (2157m). This
place is very famous to view the spectacular Himalayan Range from Manaslu to Everest and
eastwards including. Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Himal chuli, Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) etc.
From there we can walk to Bhaktapur or to Kathmandu passing through Changu Narayan Temple
and also day hiking choices. Numerous hotels can be found in Nagarkot.
Dhulikhel
30Km east of Kathmandu valley. The
way to Tibet and is one of the scenic spots of valley. Mt. Langtang to Mt. Everest are to
be viewed from Dhulikhel. It has some interesting temples and old houses in the city.
Number of short and long walks can be taken from here. Namabudha a pilgrimage place of
Buddhists can also be visited in a day. There are also hotels and lodges to stay.
Lumbini
The birth place of Buddha and of the
most important pilgrimage sites in the world lies in the western part of Nepal. Buddha,
known as the light of Asia and symbol of peace and harmony. Lumbini contains historical
and religious monuments, such as Maya Devi temple, the Ashoka pillar the sacred Viharas.
A combining round trip of 1-3 days
rafting, Chitwan, Lumbini, Tansen, Pokhara and back to Kathmandu can be made. Please

Bhutan
Bhutan is recognized as 'The Kingdom of Dragon', the Buddhist kingdom is may be the last Shangri-La. Bhutan largely shares the great concentration of mountains and living heritage of Buddhism with Nepal. It's a paradise for those who are interested in Buddhist culture and philosophy. Trekking and tours in Bhutan is only land in the world, where Mahayana, sect is the state of religion and accepts only limited tourists.
