Grade : Adventurous [A]
Time Period : 25 Days.
Flights : 2 Ways.
Warning : Altitude Sickness.

Trek type : Organized Trek

Max. altitude reached : 5350

Makalu at 8481 m is the fifth highest mountain in the world. This is another extremely remote and beautiful trek, which leads up the Arun river valley to the remorseless ice fields surrounding Makalu.

The trail passes through fascinating old towns and several high passes including the Barun La at 4313 m. From the campsite at Makalu Base Camp at 5000 m, the southern face of Makalu and the east face of Everest are absolutely impressive.

Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku and Kanchenjunga are among the other magnificent mountains that you will see.

This trek can either start and end at Tumlingtar (about 20 days) or even better from the town of Hille in Nepal's eastern hills and ending at Tumlingtar or Lukla to fly back to Kathmandu.
