MOUNT KAILASH TREK

For centuries this snowcapped mountain in Western Tibet has been revered by Hindus and Buddhists alike as the abode of the God and the mystical center of the universe.

The journey to Mount Kailas is long and rugged, traversing an isolated great plains of northern Tibet, inhabited only by nomadic herders. This trek offers you the chance to join pilgrims on their 50 kilometer trek around this fascinating 6,714 meter high mountain. You also visit the sacred Lake Manasarovar, one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world.

A visit to Tholing and also to the 9th century kingdom of Guge can be most rewarding. Tsaparang- which is the capital, is one of the most important art-historic centers of western Tibet. The work of art here is said to have been inspired by Kashmir and Nepal. An interesting day is spent in Tsaparang visiting the remains of the Royal Palace, civilian dwellings, caves, monastic structure, buildings of the Dzong government and the defense structures.

To wrap it all up, the excursion to the Everset Base Camp from Tibet for a close up view of the world's highest Mountain is certainly the ultimate climax.
