Royal Chitwan National park

RhinocerousThe world famous Royal Chitwan National park is one of the best in Asia and holds a place of pride in the world Heritage list .This is the first national park in Nepal (established in 1973) to preserve a unique ecosystem of significant value to the entire subcontinent, almost covering an area of 932 sq.km. It is situated in the inner Terai lowlands on the foot hills of great Himalayas of central Nepal , where even now you can feel the sprit of the time of the great explorers.

This park conserves more than 43 species of mammals.450 out of total estimated 750 specifies of birds in Nepal,  many varieties of butterflies and 45 species of amphibians and reptiles

This park is specially Renowned for the protection of endangered one Horned Rhinoceros and Tigers. At present the estimated population of Rhinos is 460 in this national park which may be slightly more than one-third of the total world population of the last reminants to this prehistoric mammal of jurassic Age (140-190million Years before) one study had found that in 1989,there were 25 Tigers and 40 Tigresses in this park. There are many others species of rare wild life in this park such as Gaur-Baison, wild Elephant, four horned Antelope, Pangolin, Dolphin, Monitor Lizard, and Python etc. Elephant Breeding Center          other spieces of world animals found in the park are sambar Deer, Chital, Hog deer, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, common Leopard, wild Dog, Langur and Rhesus Monkey etc. This park has also saved "Gharial" Crocodiles from being extinct. The Gharial Breeding Center is now a major tourist attraction.

But, the main tourist attraction is the Elephant Breeding Centre. It is said to be one of the only three in the world. To see the baby elephants at play and rare view of actual mating is really an unique experience.

There are two museums in the national park. One is situated in the park office in Sauraha (next door of Tiger Camp) from where you can collect visual information about the flora and fauna of the park. Another one is situated in the park head quarter near Gharial Crocodile Breeding Center.

The seasons and the weather

Winter is a little bit cold but very pleasantly warm during the day. Summer is slightly hot. The monsoon usually begins from mid June and continues until mid September. Because of the heavy rainfall during this time, rivers are flooded, but the lush green of the scenery is something special, which you never see in any other season.

How to get to Royal Chitwan National Park

After just 20 minutes of schedules flight from Kathmandu to Bharatpur Airport or four to five hour's drive from Kathmandu, Pokhara or Sunauli (India border) or after an extremely exciting white-water rafting, you will find yourself in the most enchanting subtropical jungle-Royal Chitwan National Park. If you are bringing your own car, you can drive up to Chitrasari, 3 km south of Tandi Bazar. Here, you have to leave your car and be picked-up by our jeep or horse cart. But, if you have a jeep, you can drive another 2 km, right up to Tiger Camp.
