Tibet |
Tibet, the very name evokes feelings of awe and mystery. A land of mystical Buddhist culture, awesome landscapes, artistic monasteries, exotic cities, hidden valleys and centuries-old caravan trails. Close to the world until recently, it only helped to excite the imagination even more. Celebrated as the roof of the world, Tibet offers the trip of a life time. It is all that it is said to be, and more. Regardless of how much pre-departure reading you may have done about Tibet, Lhasa will overwhelmed you with its extra ordinary sights. The magnificent Potala palace, former seat of Dalai Lamas, presides over the city. Built in 1645 at the top of a hill, the palace contains a thousand rooms, 10,000 shrines and 200,000 images. The main Buddha image here is Avalokiteswar, the Buddha of compassion. |
