Drug Yul, the Dragon kingdom, as
Bhutan is known, is perhaps the last of the "Shangri-La". The kingdom that has
been hidden for centuries has preserved a wealth of sights. This small Himalayan kingdom

RESTRICTED AREAS
Not all areas or religious establishments are
open to tourist. This is to ensure that monastic life can continue unhindered and
environmental and safety concern. We will provide you with a full list of places and
festivals that are open to tourist.
ACCOMMODATION
Hotels vary in style and quality from town to
town. During the colder months hotels are heated and extra blankets or comforters are
provided in each room. Bathrooms are reasonably modern with running hot water common in
Thimphu & paro but less often further east.
TRANSPORT
Toyota buses; Toyota cars and Toyota four
wheelers Drive are all fitted with AC and heaters.
MEALS
Continental Chinese, Indian and Bhutanese
cuisines are available. Traditional Bhutanese food is very hot and spicy.
TIME
Bhutans Time is six hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time
(GMT)
LOCAL CURRENCY
Bhutans unit of currency is the Ngultrum (NU), which
equals to 100 Chetrum. A Ngultrum has the same value as an Indian Rupee.
FLIGHT
Visitors can enter Bhutan by road through
Indian territories at the border down of phuntsholing in the south of the country or by
the Airline. Druk Air (KB, British Aerospace BAE 146) is the only national carrier
servicing paro. There are three flights a week from Bangkok, two flights a week from New
Delhi via Nepal and Calcutta.

Visitors to Bhutan can also book through there
Travel Agents abroad. The Royal Government of Bhutan sets the price for any holiday at the
flat rate as follows: The
daily tariffs for tourist visiting in a group of 4 person or more are as Follows:

The
rates given above are applicable per tourist per night halt in Bhutan.
On the day of departure, the local Agents host obligation shall be limited to
breakfast only and any extra requirements shall be available.
The
rates are inclusive of change for accommodation, food supply of pack and ridding ponies
and culture programs when and where available.
The
rates shall apply uniformly irrespective of locations, Seasons and the type of
accommodation provided asked for.
PASSPORT
A valid passport is required for all nationals
except Indians.
VISA FORMALITIES
Visa application for tourist will be submitted
by Discover Himalayan Treks.
"Visa
clearance" from Thimphu must be obtained before departing from Bhutan. Visa clearance
takes a minimum 10 days to process. Druk-Air tickets cannot be stamped in your passport on
payment of U.S $20.00 at the paro Airport. You will also required two passport photos.
Extension of visa, for up to 6 months, can be obtained in Thimphu at a cost of Nu.510
