swambhunath.jpg (25349 bytes)Magic begins the moment you disembark in the enchanting valley of Kathmandu. Kathmandu is the capitol of Nepal and people from every region and tourists of almost every nationality can be seen on its streets. Latest models of luxuries can trudge along with the rickshaws and modern international class hotels sit side by side with traditional drilling houses. There are shrines behinds the shops and vice-verse and the third eye of the Buddha surveys it all with magnanimity from the hill of Swayambhunath. The Hindus trek to Pashupatinath for salvation, Buddhists head for Bauddhanath to find inspiration and people of every faith congregate in Asan to shop for their earthly needs. You can breath the cosmopolitan air in Durbar Marg and Thamel and can drive to Nagarkot, Kakani or Dhulikhel for magnificent sunrise and sunset views. In Kathmandu, you don't really have to choose- where ever you decide to go is sure to offer you an unforgettable experience.

A 200 kilometer scenic drive or about half-an-hour flight will take you to Pokhara where life revolves around the lake shores and the majesty of the mountains is enchanting. Once there, take a trek to Annapurna area, go on a trip to Mustang or Jomosom or simply go to Sarangkot for the unparalleled view of the Himalayan peaks.

Not very far is the Chitwan Royal Wildlife Parks, reportedly one of the best managed wild life sanctuaries in the world and home to an incredible varities of flora and fauna including the reclusive Royal Bengal Tiger. It's breeding farm for Gharials is said to be one of the best in the world and here they host perhaps the only one, elephant polo of the world.

Further west but not very far, Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha. An Ashoka pillar and the temple of Mayadevi here bears testimony to the glory of this holy place. Form there one can go to the secluded lake Rara, less frequented wildlife reserves of Bardia and Sukla Phanta or trek towards the border of Nepal and western Tibet.

The sight, sound and senses of Nepal cast a magic spell. The variety, the spectrum and the diversity of the land and the people is simply awesome. One needs to be here to experience it's charms.
